Our services are focused on the evaluation, relief and correction of low back and low back related leg pain (sciatica). We specialize in specific low force pelvic and spine corrective balancing techniques that are combined in a specific sequence which provide an extremely safe and effective method of stabilizing and balancing the spine and pelvis and taking the imbalanced pressure off the low back discs.
Chiropractic plays a very large role in the treatment of low back pain and sciatica (low back related leg pain). Structural misalignments (subluxations) of the hip structures (pelvis) or the spinal bones (vertebrae) cause normal spinal motion to be compromised (reduced) and produce increased imbalanced pressure on the spinal nerves and discs causing low back pain and/or sciatic pain. These subluxations must be successfully repositioned (manipulated) back to their proper position and normal mobility restored in order to relieve the abnormal disc pressure and swelling. Chiropractic physicians are trained in the diagnosis and treatment of subluxation (bone misalignment).
Dr. LaGana has been thoroughly trained in two chiropractic techniques that emphasize low back functional balance and integrity. Dr. LaGana was fortunate to have trained under the supervision of the developers and first generation teachers of these techniques (Dr. DeJarnette – Sacro Occipital technique) and Activator Methods (Dr. Arlen Fuhr- Co-founder). Dr. LaGana has combined these techniques in a specific sequence that, when further combined with manual traction procedures, can cause a mild, safe lumbar decompression for the treatment of disc degeneration and herniation.
Combining specific low force chiropractic adjustments (Activator) with controlled cervical traction (Pronex) in office can create a mild cervical decompression to the cervical vertebrae and discs that can be extremely effective in the treatment of disc degeneration and disc herniation.
While our first and most important goal is pain relief and that is our initial focus. In most cases, we accomplish this quite successfully. I have found, however, that depending upon the amount of disc and bone damage that may have occurred, it is necessary that patients take an active role in stabilizing and maintaining their condition.
We want you to have the ability to stay out of pain.
We offer a series of one-on-one upper body (using weights and resistance bands training) and lower body “core exercises” utilizing a balance ball in a specific sequence to help in the rehabilitation and stabilization of the structures affected by disc involved low back and sciatic pain.
These procedures, once taught, can be done in the convenience of your own home with no further cost to you. Our long term goal is to give you the ability to stay out of pain.
Ultrasound is a well known therapy. It is a passive therapy meaning it is done for you. I have found that ultrasound is most effective when used as a supplemental aid to the corrective procedures and not as a standalone option. The goal of the ultrasound is to help relieve pain by decreasing muscle spasms and chronic inflammation. Ultrasound increases local blood flow to help the involved damaged soft tissues heal more rapidly.
